O3b Networks Taps Systems Integrator Kordia To Install and Ready Pacific Region Customers Ahead of Historic O3b Satellite Fleet Launch.

St. John, Jersey, Channel Islands/Auckland, New Zealand – January 18, 2013

With the historic launch of its game-changing satellite fleet set for May, O3b Networks announced today a strategic partnership with systems integrator Kordia aimed at the implementation of O3b customer sites across the Pacific Ocean Region.

A New Zealand-owned systems and support innovator, Kordia’s initial assignment is the installation of an O3b Tier-1 terminal in Rarotonga for Telecom Cook Islands (TCI). TCI will utilize O3b’s Ka-band capacity and fully-managed trunking solution, O3bTrunk, to provide businesses, residents and tourists with Internet access five times faster than current broadband offerings across the Cook Islands. TCI has also signed up high-speed, low-latency O3bTrunk service for four islands using the O3b Tier-2 terminals. As a result, each island will receive more than 20 times the bandwidth they enjoy today.

O3b Networks will deliver fiber-like speed at sub 150 millisecond latency and affordable prices, opening the door to new business and growth opportunities for Pacific Island customers.

“This exciting partnership between Kordia and O3b Networks ahead of the breakthrough launch of O3b satellites will change the way communities and businesses communicate across the Pacific region,” said Alan Turner, General Manager of Kordia Solutions New Zealand.

“While no other satellite operator will be adding significant new capacity to the Pacific this year, O3b is on the verge of redefining an entire industry with the flexibility and affordability of its innovative Ka-band solutions. Kordia is looking forward to helping O3b customers take full advantage of O3b’s new and innovative services,” says Turner

Kordia’s technical engineering teams are undergoing training for the installation, commissioning and maintenance of all varieties of Tier-1 and Tier-2 O3b terminals.

“The O3b Networks-Kordia alliance marks a key milestone as we enter the all-important implementation phase at customer sites around the world. With a global infrastructure in place and a constellation set for launch, O3b looks forward to serving telecom providers and their customers, who have struggled for years with sluggish and costly broadband offerings.”, noted Chris Schram, EVP Operations for O3b Networks. “The arrival of O3b’s game-changing, high speed fiber-like capacity will soon spur a new level of communications in underserved and remote markets.”

The largest Ka-band operator in the world, O3b is enabling communications service providers to offer affordable fiber-like capacity around the world. O3b’s unique eight satellite, Medium-Earth-Orbit fleet enables affordable, high-speed connectivity in places where traditional satellite and fiber offerings are unavailable or extremely costly.
