Health and safety inside the Victoria Park Tunnel is of critical importance. An emphasis on fire safety and security means that any communication solution installed must meet strict criteria. Kordia installed a specialist fibre communications infrastructure to transport all ‘operation critical’ communications within in the new Victoria Park tunnel and onto the Auckland Motorway network backbone.
“The specialist communications infrastructure is used to transport plant management control and data such as ventilation fans, booster fans and emergency lighting,” says Andy Powell, Kordia’s Manager for Northern Service Delivery.
“It also transports all CCTV signals from the tunnel into a local control environment and into the main Auckland Motorway control room via the Auckland Motorway network. The tunnel cannot operate without it.”
Kordia Solutions won the work after a competitive tender called for well-designed fibre infrastructure to support operation-critical communications in a challenging environment. Tendering for two packages of work—the radio broadcast and main tunnel fibre work—Kordia was then approached to complete the rest of the fibre work for the tunnel plant control, including ventilation, fans and emergency lighting as well as the critical fire alarm system.
